Last Goodbyes with a Promise

We are going tonight to tell Starsky goodbye, and we will see him soon. He fought so hard, but we acheieved our goal. I wanted him to spend the rest of his life here in peace until he passed and he has. He spent almost 4 years here with no worries. He is the one who taught me so much about farriery and brought me to become the trimmer I am today. I always called him my teacher, and he made me of so much I am today. So he can continue to teach, he will stay at NC State and teach the students more about horses that have suffered from colitis... he will continue to teach after his death and hopefully give other horses a chance at life. God bless him... together we have and will continue to change lives one horse and human at a time.

I am so sorry to hear about Starsky. I have been following your blog and have been pulling for him.
About a month ago I had to make the heart wrenching decision to say goodbye to my 7 year old Beau due to complications from surgery, so my heart goes out to you. Fighting for the life of a partner takes it's toll emotionally and physically, but I hope you will find some comfort in knowing that he had the best possible life with you and that he was loved and cared for very much, and what a wonderful gift he will continue to give even when he is gone.

My heart goes out to you! I can't imagine how hard this must be for you and your family, but your constant positive and progressive attitude is an inspiration. I'll be sending lots of positive energy your way! -Genna-

I'm so sorry, Mariah. I know too well the pain of losing a beloved horse. Starsky must have completed his mission and taught you everything he knew; now that he's leaving you, as you said, he'll move on to another part of his journey, teaching the next generation of veterinarians so they can save other beloved horses. Take comfort in knowing you did all that you could, and that he was loved. {{{hugs}}}
